5 Ways to Extend the Life of Your Spas in Ottawa

The last thing anyone wants are dangerous water born bacteria multiplying in their hot tub. And that is where chemicals come in. If you aren’t using a Salt water Spa, which uses natural elements to kill Bacteria, body oils, skin cells, organic dirt and grime, then you will require chemicals.

Unpleasant things can enter your Spa or Hot Tub water via many various sources, not in the least bathers. When bacteria find a safe place to multiply, they create a layer of protective slime, called biofilm, which enables them to stick more effectively inside the pipe-work. But don’t panic, it takes time, so only neglectful owners will suffer the consequences. But if you use a system flush at every water change and you water changes are quarterly, then you likely won’t have any problems.

And then there is your filter. How often the cartridge needs replacing is dependent on the size of the filter, how often it's cleaned, how much the spa is used and how much debris gets into the water. We recommend having two, so that one is working and the other is cleaned and standing by. Generally a filter needs to be replaced every one or two years.

In case you hadn’t notice, Hot tub covers are awkward and heavy. Our recommendation is to install a cover lifter. Whether hydraulic or standard, a hot tub cover lifter will save your back and your pride. It’s hard to stay relaxed when you have to fight 20 square feet of dead weight at the end of the night. As for the covers themselves, it has been demonstrated that they reduce nearly 100% of the evaporation loss from a Spa. Even the cheapest cover is estimated to prevent 70% of loss.

You have invested a lot in your hot tub and you want it to continue to give you many years of relaxation and relief from muscle pain. So when it comes time for a check-up or repair, quick, dependable service is what you should expect. To ensure that your hot tub stays in prime working order, schedule a service visit today. It's quick and easy. Simply call us at 613-858-5562. You will be glad you did.

5 More Things About Owning a Spa in Ottawa

When doing research into buying a hot tub or spa, insulation is one of the most important features to consider. Heat lost is money burned, and frozen pumps and pipes can be a major expense. There are two main types of insulation used in hot tubs. Urethane foam and styrene foam board.

Urethane foam is common amongst manufacturers. The foam is sprayed into the cabinet of the tub where it expands and fills the entire cabinet. But this is a lazy approach and often the manufacturers envelope the piping and cabling as well. Obviously if you need a repair, driving up the cost of finding problems. It also heats up as it cures which attacks glued joints and can cause the glue to break down and cause leaks. From a service perspective, urethane insulated hot tubs and spas are a nightmare to work on.

We all know that heat rises, which means that your spa or hot tub in the Ottawa winter looses its heat through the top, which makes covers a necessary consideration. Heat retention means saving money on power, repairs and water changes. Thickness is one measurement of covers, but you will also want to understand density. Thickness is a measure of durability, if you consider the weight of snow, kids, pets and other things that may inadvertently end up on top of your spa.

Ozonators wear out. Common ozonators like corona discharge or ultraviolet will last for approximately 9,000 hours of running time. For most of us this means three years of operation, and when they fail all sanitizing power is lost. But do you really need an ozonator? There have been a lot of changes and improvements to Spa and Hot Tub technology and if you have a Salt water Spa, then you don’t need one at all. But if have an ozonator on your current tub, and if has been more than three years since you checked it, then you may want to check it again.

You have invested a lot in your hot tub or are about to invest a lot in a spa, and if you do it right, you can have a clean, efficient tub that will last a decade with minimal upkeep and maintenance. We are Sonshine Hot Tub Service in Ottawa, Ontario and we can help you make the decision that is best for you. Kingston Ontario Shotgun Style

Unbeknownst to most Kingston Ontario residents and businesses, the Shotgun Show were recently creeping their streets. The Shotgun Show is an Internet phenomenon that has built a following of tens of thousands of viewers online, in Bogs, Social Media, Authority , Podcasting and especially Video Sites. In keeping with the Show’s modus operandi, the Producer, Dean Emerick and Host, Carlo Lombard, were bursting into unsuspecting businesses and finding out about what makes Kingston Ontario tick. With 97% of consumers going online to research new products and services, it is no mystery that Businesses need to find a way to be found online.

Based on the premise that past marketing modalities were limited to spending thousands of dollars for PRINT, tens of thousands for RADIO and hundreds of thousands for TELEVISION, the Shotgun Show makes it easy to get online and get results. In this Century consumers CHOOSE WHAT they want, HOW they want it and WHEN they want it. If they are not engaged properly, they can be GONE in less time than it takes to finish reading this sentence.

“Our format is informative, but it is also fun,” states Dean Emerick, Producer of the Show. With twenty-five years of experience the Corporate Vide, Television and the Film Industry, he says “that when you put a Business owner or entrepreneur in front of a camera, they naturally break into sales mode or they freeze. And who can blame them, very few of us are trained to be in front of a camera.” Having worked with Hollywood Stars including Sylvester Stallone, Selma Hayek and Sharon Stone , he claims “Actors are successful because they are playing a part. If they had to stand up and sell a business, they would all have difficulties.”

So, to ease Business Owners into video for the Internet, they decided to put people in a car, “It’s a familiar environment where the background is always changing and you can have a conversation with a friend.” Brilliant! And are they successful? Well 130 episodes later, with half a million YouTube views and tens of thousands of followers online, then I guess you could say they have come a long way. “Kingston is our first stop in our mission across North America,” the salt and pepper Producer says. “We have a lot of interest in many states, provinces and countries, but we want to build it right. We’re from Ottawa and Kingston was the next natural move.”

5 More Things About Buying a Hot Tub in Ottawa

If you are a hot tub or spa owner in Ottawa, you should know that an energy efficient hot tub will save you money. Purchasing an energy efficient hot tub will save you a considerable amount of money over the lifetime of your hot tub or Spa.

Thickness, dispersion and type of insulation has a significant impact on the amount of energy consumed by your hot tub. Consider when it’s below zero, without proper insulation the heat will seep out through the shell into the surrounding environment. This will cause the heaters to work much harder to maintain the optimum water temperature, drive up your electrical bills and eventually lead to more repairs of burnt pumps. A well-insulated hot tub will prevent heat loss and require less energy to maintain the heat of the water.

Balancing your water refers to the acidity levels and is important because the clarity and effectiveness of the sanitizing agents depends on the acidity (pH) of the water.  Of course, if you buy a Salt Water Spa, then this process becomes simplified. But for non-salt water, this is done by occasionally adding small amounts of acid or base to the water, usually in granular form. Measuring the sanitizer and acid levels is quick and easy, usually with a litmus-style test strip that changes color when dipped in the water.

Some hot tub and spa centres in Ottawa offer tubs with LED lighted jet packages, waterfall features, sunken speaker and media sound system with iPod or MP3 waterproof housing, speakers and subwoofers. It is important to consider that these are the most likely repairs that will need to be made. These design features are very attractive to make a spa seem sexier, but they drive up the price and add complication.  Before you commit to lighted jets, pop up speakers or other extra features consider the cost of repair.

Ottawa Business Coach Breakthrough

Why do so many business owners struggle to stay on track with their goals and dreams? Why do they fall prey to “drift” so frequently and fall short of their full potential? In most cases, it is because they don’t understand what real business ownership means. Here’s how I see it.

RESPONSIBILITY + ACCOUNTABILITY = OWNERSHIP

An individual “owns” their business when he/she accepts full responsibility for their actions and decisions, and make themselves accountable for their results… good, bad and ugly. It has been said that leadership is about taking responsibility, not making excuses. I couldn’t agree more.

It is all too easy to blame the economy, or your competition, or your staff (or any number of issues) for your mediocre results. People do it all the time. We pass the buck. We point the finger. We look for a scape goat. The first key to breakthrough results, however, is accepting full responsibility for where your business stands right now! “You are here” because of the actions you have taken (or not taken) and the decisions you have made (or have failed to make). Period. Coming to terms with this is the first step toward transformation.

The second key concept is making yourself accountable. Before you went into business for yourself, you probably “worked for the man.” As part of your job, you accepted the reality that if you failed to deliver on your responsibilities, there would be hell to pay at some point in the near future. You did your job, or eventually got shown the door!

As an owner, who do you answer to? Hopefully, you keep your staff accountable. But who keeps you on track? Who helps you stay focused? It is all too easy to “let things slide,” to procrastinate, and to put off the really important tasks in your business. But instead of making excuses, make progress! Successful people “own” their business by putting the necessary systems and relationships in place to guarantee their ongoing growth and success.

One of these key relationships is a business coach! A coach works with you to…

Get clear on your goals (what is your end game?)

Create an action plan to achieve those goals (how do you get there?)

Determine the next steps every time you meet (what’s next?)

Keep you focused on the task at hand (what matters most?)

Help you learn from your wins and losses (what can I learn from this?)

Hold you accountable to your commitments and decisions (what am I responsible for?) By now you can see that real business “ownership” is much more than first imagined. It takes courage, leadership, and the willingness to accept responsibility for everything that takes place under your watch! Are you up for the challenge?

Wouldn’t it be great to have all the answers? Imagine knowing everything there is to know about every subject. You’d be the life of every party, spouting out information whenever anyone asked anything. You’d also rule the business world with all your incredible knowledge about various business fundamentals. Yeah, it would be great.

Or, would it?

Socially, no one likes a know-it-all. Most people find it comical when someone acts like they have the answers to everything. The best example of a know-it-all would be Cliff Claven from the television series Cheers. (How’s this for feeling old? Cheers went off the air 20 years ago!) Cliff had an answer to every question… even if he made up most of them!

In business, being a know-it-all can lead to irrelevancy. When you have all the answers, you end up doing things the same way you’ve always done them, even when those actions no longer work. The “business graveyard” is full of companies that were led by know-it-alls.

True business innovation, creativity and success come not from knowing all the answers, but from asking the right questions. When we ask the right questions we discover true wisdom and learn powerful principles that will lead to owning a successful company.

Notice I didn’t say, “When we ask questions ….” I said, “When we ask the right questions …” Far too many business owners ask questions that really don’t get to the heart of their business. Here are some examples of the types of questions many business owners ask:

  • How can I make more money?
  • Why does my competition get all the good clients?
  • How can I motivate my employees to work harder?
  • When will I ever get a day off?

I’m not suggesting that these are bad questions. They’re actually very honest questions. But those questions won’t bring you to a place where creativity and innovation are unleashed. They might get you started down the path to the right questions, but unfortunately, most business owners get discouraged when they can’t figure out the answers to these questions, so they never dig deeper until they get to the right questions.

That’s where a business coach comes in. Good business coaches are always asking questions. They’re always reading, studying, learning. As a result, when you sit with a business coach, you sit with a “trained questioner.” Business coaches have learned to ask the right questions and they help owners ask those important questions about their own business.

What are those questions? Here’s three:

  • What happened in the past that brought success or failure?
  • What’s missing that can help bring you where you want to go?
  • What’s next for your business? Where do you want to go and why?

There are many other good questions that business owners should be asking about their company, but those three are a great start.

So, what questions are you asking?

I hear this statement all the time. Most of the owners I have spoken to (and that’s a big number) devote a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to building a successful company. They seek to offer quality products and services to the marketplace and to accomplish something significant in their community. In other words, they are trying to build something special.

But let’s be honest. At the center of it all, they want to make more money and have more free time to spend with the ones they love, doing the things they are most passionate about. In most case, the business is just a vehicle to help them get what they want out of life! To them, a successful business equals a more fulfilling life! As a result, growing their business is a top priority. Maybe you can relate.

Now we all know that a lot of businesses close their doors every year. Not all businesses make the cut! And if you’re among the ones that did, you probably have established yourself in your local market. For you, the question may be less about “will my business continue to grow?” and more along the lines of “HOW will it grow?” and “WHAT will it grow into?”

Think of an infant for a moment. As long as a baby receives basic care and nourishment, it will grow. That’s the natural order of things. From infancy to childhood to adolescence to adulthood, development is “a sure thing.” In other words, as long as basic needs are met, growth is inevitable!

How that child grows up, however, is hugely dependent on what kind of environment, experiences, and influences shape him/her. Will the child be raised in a nurturing home, or in a negligent environment? Will it be a positive experience, or one filled with unnecessary pain and hardship?

What kind of person the child becomes (what the child grows into) is another matter. No matter what kind of home a child grows up, it’s ultimately the choices a child/teenager makes that impacts his or her future in a significant way.

It’s the same with you and your business. Growth will happen, but how do you “get there?” Will you make needless detours on the way to achieving the success you’re looking for? Will the growth take longer than is really necessary? And what kind of decisions are you making? (Or not making)? These decisions (or the lack of them) determine your reality and impact your bottom line in a big way.

One of the common complaints I hear from business owners is “This isn’t what I signed up for!” Translation: “My business has become something I never planned for. This isn’t what I envisioned in the beginning.” Maybe that’s your story as well.

Remember… the burning issue here isn’t so much whether your business will grow or not, but rather how it will grow and what it will grow into. That means your number one priority as the owner of your business is to make sure it grows on purpose and by design, and not by accident, to lead your company into the future that you envision. Don’t let your business grow without the proper leadership required to build a successful company and a more fulfilling life!

How is your business growing today? And what is it becoming? Those are the crucial questions you have to wrestle with.

Together, we build a business-development system tailor-made for your unique needs, engineered for greater profitability and growth.

Far too often, business owners are prisoners to the tyranny of the urgent. With a heavy load on their shoulders and endless tasks and responsibilities, they get caught reacting to the crises that happen regularly in their business (both big and small). Feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and frustrated, often an owner is looking for “quick fixes” to the business challenges staring them down on a daily basis.

Given the fast pace their business demands, the temptation to apply “duct tape” problem-solving methodologies is strong. To clarify, duct tape problem-solving is a quick-fix, band-aid approach. In other words, just stop the bleeding and hold things together until the next crisis. We all know how many things duct tape can fix in short order around our home, but most of us are wise enough to know that it isn’t meant to be a long-term solution. Eventually, the issue at hand must be addressed with a more permanent solution in mind.

Don’t get me wrong! There are definitely times in life and business where the duct-tape approach is necessary! It is the triage required to keep operations running and revenues flowing. But triage is by its very nature a temporary measure until a more comprehensive examination and accompanying treatment can be applied. It’s the same with your business!

Stop putting out fires and start leading strategically! Regain control over your time and how you spend it on your business. Our personal business coaching professionals work directly with you to develop a strategy to help you achieve a work/life balance engineered to suit your personal needs and the goals and dreams you have for your business. SSNetworking Ottawa Business Event with Colleen Francis

SSNetworking Ottawa Business Event with Colleen Francis

Our Mission is to help business professionals in all industries understand their networking needs, strategically grow their business network and learn to be successful business leader. Increasing the quality of referrals and leads is the first step in building brand awareness which lead directly to an increase in revenues.

Contrary to popular belief, networking is NOT just about talking to people, selling yourself or exchanging business cards. The real definition of networking is the art of making and maintaining relationships. Strategic Business Networking is networking with a PURPOSE, a TARGET and a PLAN!

If you are a business professional who has NOT experienced success with business networking, ask yourself these 3 simple questions: Why am I networking? Who am I trying to network with? How am I going to meet the right people? If you do not have answers to these questions, then we can help you get started to day.

Whether you are looking to enter a new market or trying to figure out why you aren't getting the results you think you should, the first get element to review is your sales strategy.

For organizations looking to enter a new market, it is critical that the sales strategy developed is suited to that market and the strengths of the business. All to often, companies take a carbon copy of what works in one market and assume that it will work in another. And when the strategy is off, it is often too late to correct once results fail expectations.

And for those current executing, if results are falling short, before you blame it on the team or the customers, make sure that your strategy is tuned to what you are trying to achieve in your market. Engage Selling helps organizations develop and review sales strategies to ensure they meet their business objectives.

Colleen is driven by a passion for sales – and results. A successful sales leader for over 20 years, she understands the challenges of selling in today's market and that business leaders can no longer rely on approaches to sales based on techniques from decades ago.

Colleen works with business and sales leaders to design, implement and hone their sales teams to seize market opportunities. Whether designing strategy to target a new market or working with a team to improve their productivity, Colleen's results have attracted clients such as Merck, Abbott, Merrill Lynch, Royal Bank of Canada, Dow AgroSciences, Adecco, Trend Micro, UBM, and over 1,000 other leading organizations.

Time and time again, clients who work with Colleen note her frank, no-nonsense approach to solving problems and addressing opportunities. Always with an eye to results, Colleen has become renowned for her use of measurement and accountability to inspire sales team performance.

What is Performance Management?

The answer might surprise you. Maybe it’s about sustainability or improvement or communication. But really, it’s about the bottom line, because when all of the right pieces are in the right place and doing what they do best, then this will be reflected in your success. Whether you are trying to increase revenues, reduce expenditures or optimize the effectiveness of your organization or business, performance management is the process that will get you there more efficiently than not.

As businesses and organizations grow, decisions are made and avenues explored. Additions are made, capital purchases added and personnel are hired to keep the machine churning. Over time the experiments that worked are added to the mix and the experiments that didn’t are let go. But much like building a house your structure can end up with unfinished sections, ineffective processes and a structure whose momentum is thwarted by it’s own design.

No matter how much you think you know and understand, we all suffer from not knowing what we don’t know. And that goes double for entrepreneurs and organizations. The cure is to create and sustain a culture of continuous improvement. This is accomplished through identifying and sharing the purpose of your vision, mission and values, by communicating more clearly and regularly, through mapping multilevel-led strategic plans that align with purpose, developing effective and efficient systems, informing better decision-making skills using performance measurement and helping individuals develop powerful and motivational leadership skills. It’s that easy!

It’s that easy when great performance and strategy starts with a clearly communicated vision and mission. When strategic planning is something that is practical and actionable – not something that collects dust. When the only way to truly know if you’re doing what’s right and doing the right thing, is to measure performance. When employees are more engaged and have more confidence in organizations that create and communicate a plan. When hiring the right people, offering them the right resources and training, and getting out of their way becomes a priority. When inspiration and laughter breeds innovation and organizations ask themselves “What and How can we do better?” Then you’ll be in the right place at the right time with the right people.

To achieve these things in your company or organization you should look for someone with a natural proclivity for engaging, motivating and empowering people to achieve their goals. A critical, “big picture” thinker who recognizes the relationships between separate influences. Someone who is an accomplished analyst, researcher and problem solver with experience in Strategic Planning, Scenario Mapping, Performance Measurement, Organizational and Leadership Development, Marketing and Communications.

Tina Collins of Squirrel Strategic Development understands that when all of the right pieces are in the right place and doing what they do best, then this will be reflected in your success.

Live Work Play

We are called LiveWorkPlay because each of the three parts of our name represents a particular value. There are no spaces between the words because each value is linked to the other.

When it comes to “Live” our membership wanted to make sure it was clear that we believe in a particular assumed norm for people with intellectual disabilities: that they will live in regular homes just like non-disabled citizens; that they will receive medical care just like non-disabled citizens; that they will be treated with dignity and have their privacy respect just like non-disabled citizens.

We try to live these values every day. We enlist the support of individual citizens and partners in the public, private, and non-profit sector to help make it happen.

When it comes to “Work,” the harsh reality for people with intellectual disabilities in Ottawa and throughout Canada is they face very high rates of unemployment, usually in the range of 75%. There are many reasons for this. People with intellectual disabilities have been largely denied the possibility of paid employment in community due to false assumptions and myths about their abilities and value. They have also been deliberately channeled into segregated activities that have denied them of any opportunity to explore paid work as an option.

So we proide support with matching potential employees to your business needs, on-the-job training at the point of hire for the employee at no cost to the employer, personalized on-site training and on-going follow-up, ongoing on-the-job support and problem-solving for both the employee and employer, on-the-job training for employees when job changes occur and accommodation solutions for interested employers.

When it comes to “Play,” if we can’t all bowl together, we’re doing something terribly wrong. And yet, all across the city, province, and country, people with intellectual disabilities are being congregated and segregated, isolated and de-humanized. This ranges from denial of sexual information and decision-making to exclusion from sports and cultural activities that are open to other citizens. There are “special” swimming classes and art classes – you name it, there’s probably a “special” version of it.

LiveWorkPlay helps remove barriers in many different ways. We network in the community to identify people and places that think and act inclusively, while at the same time we try to educate those who segregate and exclude. Hence, our members are bowling, curling, running, worshipping, and advocating alongside other citizens with ever-increasing frequency, as contributing members of society.

Online Video Marketing for Business

Imagine for a moment that there was magical machine that could capture light. Then imagine that you could use this machine to capture the things that you repeat the most often. And then it could repeat that things on demand. Now imagine a place where you could store that information, so that when people needed to find it, it could be accessed by anyone, from anywhere and at any time.

In case you haven’t noticed, video has arrived in the online environment, in a real way. In the Mesozoic Era of the Internet, or 5 years ago, video was a bandwidth-sucking medium that was exploited only by skateboarders and amateur videographers. Youtube was not on the radar of mainstream business.

Today, video is one of the main leverage points for catching search engines attention, and therefore achieving a higher standing in search engine results. According to Forrester, you are 53 times more likely to achieve a page one result by incorporating video in your media blitz.

But when it comes to social media marketing, a talking head won’t do. When most people are placed in front of the camera and told to speak, they do one of two things: they either freeze or they go into sales mode. Neither of these is going to help you with online marketing. In the online environment, people can click away in less time than it takes to finish reading this sentence. So you have five seconds to engage them and then they are your, unless you become pedantic.

The Shotgun Show is designed to remove all of the obstacles associated with non-professional video production and all you to be yourself in front of the camera. It is also designed to attract a following, be fun and engaging, and expose our clients to new people. Your Story IS Your Business. What separates you from your competition? YOU! People Buy From People. A Shotgun Show episode is your elevator pitch that is online, working for you, 24/7. Not only that, but we have an established audience that is waiting to see your episode! Behind every Business is a Story. Start your Search Below and find the right People for your needs!

Brought to you by The Shotgun Show TM, a highly effective and cleverly disguised Online Marketing “How To” platform and 21st Century Internet Marketing Strategy for Social Media Marketing. Get with an Internet Marketing Company that knows how to leverage the new “word of mouth marketing.”

Separation and Divorce Solutions in Ottawa at The SDRC with Diane Valiquette

The Separation/Divorce Resource Center helps individuals, couples and families make positive life choices based on their understanding of themselves in relationships. Everyone has a choice to love unconsciously (recycle issues, distance, unhappiness, withholding, projecting, and withdrawing) or consciously (acceptance, happiness, wholeness, closeness, intimacy, and aliveness). The SDRC gives you the tools to break the cycle of continuous negative patterns and to build solid relationships. Diane Valiquette, founder and owner of the Separation/Divorce Resource Centre, offers hope and sanity to families that are facing challenges in relationships that are not working. She has developed a 12 week relationship rebuilding seminar incorporating the divorce recovery model in the book “Rebuilding when a Relationship ends” by Bruce Fisher.

Whether you are with a partner or separating/divorcing, this course is about understanding yourself in relationships. At the end of this course you will develop an awareness of yourself, be given the tools you need to analyze and understand the choices you made to bring you to this painful time in your life.  Using these tools, you will be able to make better choices in your future relationships, for yourself and with others.

Are you hurting? If you have recently ended a love relationship, you are. Those who appear not to hurt when their love relationships end have either already worked through a lot of hurt, or have yet to feel the pain. So go ahead, acknowledge that you’re hurt. It’s natural, expected, healthy, and even okay to hurt. Pain is nature’s way of telling us that something in us needs to be healed, so let’s get on with the healing.

There’s an adjustment process after a divorce — with a beginning, an end, and specific steps of learning along the way. While you’re feeling some of the pain, you’re more anxious to learn how to be healed. If you’re like most of us, you probably have had some destructive patterns of behavior for years — maybe since your childhood. Change is hard work. While you were in a love relationship you might have been comfortable enough that you felt no need to change. But now there is that pain. What do you do? Well, you can use the pain as motivation to learn and to grow.

The steps of the adjustment process are arranged into a pyramid of “Rebuilding Blocks” to symbolize a mountain. Rebuilding means climbing that mountain, and for most of us it’s a difficult journey. Let us assure you that the climb is worth it! The rewards at the top make the tough climb worthwhile.

How long will it take to climb the mountain? Studies indicate that on the average it takes about a year to get up above the tree line (past the really painful, negative stages of the climb), longer to reach the top. Some will make it in less time, others in more. Some research suggests that a few in our climbing party will need as long as three to five years. Don’t let that discourage you. Finishing the climb is what counts, not how long it takes. Just remember to climb at your own rate, and don’t get rattled if some pass you along the way. Like life itself, the process of climbing and growing is the source of your greatest benefits!

The rebuilding blocks are a guide and a map prepared by others who have already traveled the trail. As you climb, you’ll discover that tremendous personal growth is possible, despite the emotional trauma you’ve experienced from the ending of your love relationship. Beginning at the bottom, we find denial and fear, two painful stumbling blocks that come early in the process of adjustment. They can be overwhelming feelings, and may make you reluctant to begin the climb.  “As we learn about who we are, how we feel and what we want, AND we are willing to communicate that openly, our relationships easily become harmonious.” Diane Valiquette

Ottawa Honda Dealer Takes Government Employees on Odyssey

It sounds crazy, but it is absolutely true. A few young and adventurous Government employees needed a warm ride to work, they had heard what the Shotgun Show was doing to bust the winter blahs and they asked for a lift. With the help of Dow Honda, the Premiere Honda Dealer in Ottawa, we were able to make their wish come true.

Here is one review of the Odyssey: The Odyssey's interior and features are much like those of nearly every other minivan on the market. The most notable difference between the Odyssey and its competitors is its interior build quality. The seats, dash, storage compartments and trim in the Odyssey are all surprisingly well constructed. Every surface in the Odyssey looks and feels solid as a rock.

The interior of the 2013 Odyssey is cavernous, with 172 cubic feet of total passenger volume and 148 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the front seats. With comfortable and flexible seating configurations, numerous storage bins and pockets and up to 15 beverage holders, for the hot chocolate provided by Dow Honda, the Odyssey is ready for whatever a Lucas Construction can ask of it.

The third row, which Honda calls a Magic Seat, is 60-40 split folding and enables the Odyssey to quickly and easily adapt between passenger and cargo hauling. It can accommodate three passengers and still provide 38 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the seats, or it can fold completely flat into the floor, creating 93 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row. Maximizing the Odyssey's cargo space requires removing the second-row seats. Total interior volume, with passenger and cargo volume combined, measures 210 cubic feet. Enough room for a whole team!

Meanwhile, back at the dealership, the Dow Honda gang are coming up with new ideas. They decided to supply everyone with brushed steel, travel mugs filled with hot chocolate. But I am sure they will not be offended if you put coffee in it. And that’s how they roll, if I can quote Betty White from her California commercial. They are the premiere Honda Dealer in Ottawa for a reason, and it’s quite plain to see why.

Thanks again to Dow Honda at 845 Carling Avenue in Ottawa and at 613 237 2777 for the generous use of their Honda Odyssey and hot chocolate. They are the premier Ottawa Dealer in Ottawa. Call them and let them know you enjoyed the show. And if you want to ride the Shotgun Shuttle, just drop us a line and let us know.

Ottawa Honda Dealer Offers Free Rides To Work or School

Is winter holding on or is spring reluctant to show itself. Either way, March is dragging on like a running a marathon in workboots. And speaking of workboots, in this weeks Shotgun Shuttle, provided by the good people of Dow Honda on Carling Avenue in Little Italy, we provide transportation to a couple of Contractors from the Construction Industry in Ottawa. Say hello to the boys from Lucas Contracting in Ottawa.

So you want to beat the winter blues and blahs. We can’t blame you, and we feel quite the same. Here at the Shotgun Show we the good fortune to meet the guy and girls from Dow Honda and they suggested that we use their new Honda Odyssey to Shuttle people to work or school. Then we sent out invitations to our friends, colleagues, followers and fans asking who would be interested in such an idea.

As you can imagine, the response was enormous and a new concept was born. Why not provide transportation for people to their worksites and schools? In the process, we get to learn about their business, what makes them tick and we get to see Carlo in whatever unpredictable outfit he decides to wear. That’s worth three minutes our your time on Youtube. Besides, after 1500, you can only watch so many cat videos!

Ottawa Business Events with Social Media Icon

If “Content is king!” then I want a Social Media Makeover!  So, everyone is asking “what do I focus on to improve my Online status?” the key to success on the web today is to remain relevant. This means that you must be in all the right places and all the right ways. Yes, it is overwhelming for most of us, and the DIY stage of social media management, is over.

How do you run your business, make sales, satisfy your clients AND manage all of the social media demands? You don’t, and it shows. But how could anyone? We know that , dynamic, compelling content can attract attention and drive traffic, the traffic we know we want and strive to connect with, but in order to do this you must be a writer, a photographer, a videographer and clever wit. Well, that means that less than half a percentage point of the worlds population are qualified to do so, and half of them are living in their mother’s basement.

The basic elements are to be where people are communicating in large numbers. That would include Youtube, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Blog. And already I feel tired, just thinking about this. Then you need to put your best self forward. This includes a professional picture, and a synopsis of your skills and what you have done for others. Don’t forget to add a touch of the human element, because that is what being social is all about. Then you need regular content, built on high traffic keywords to draw the attention of search engines. Have we lost you yet?

The easiest way to get control of all of this information and begin to organize it into a manageable strategy is to connect with people in the know. Photo Fridays are hosted by the good people of Social Media Icon who bring their research and resources to bare on your Online Presence. The events have a festival feeling whereby new profile pictures are being taken right on site with a professional photographer, sites and profiles are being updated, the atmosphere is post-work casual, and the networking is unparalleled. We like to think of it as an opportunity for businesses to have a look at a Social Media Makeover and why it is necessary.

The end game is to get you and your business performing at the highest levels possible.

He also explains that Coaches are not magicians. They can’t promise that you will achieve instant success by working with them. But they promise that the application of the basic tenets of successful businesses will help you implement more strategies that will move you to your goals than any consultant, seminar, or discussion with a relative ever can! He also said that Coaches can help you drive more people to your business, sell to them more effectively, service them better so they buy more often, manage your finances and your employees more efficiently, create the systems you need to free yourself from your business, and more! In answer to a Frequently Asked Question about Business coaching, Nathalie explained that it is a relatively new profession that helps business owners plan more strategically take focused action steps and improve their bottom line results. A recent study by the National Federation of Independent Businesses found that 70% of small business owners turn to spouses or family members for the majority of their business advice, and not surprisingly, statistics tell us that most small businesses eventually fail. This is where a business coach comes in. Business coaches meet with the owner on a regular basis for an extended period of time to set goals, create strategy, ensure actions are being taken, provide tools, train the owner and staff, measure results, and refine strategies. Simply put, a qualified business coach helps you get results.

Ottawa Business Networking Events with Breakthrough Coach

Looking for the best Business Networking Events in Ottawa? Then you need to put Break Through Coach on your Events Calendar.  Instructional, empowering and highly attended by Business, Government and Corporate groups, the Break Through Series offers what has been missing from other Ottawa Networking Events- content!

The Series is Hosted by Eric Deschamps, Rob Dale and Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp of Break Through Coach, three top networkers and businesses coaches in the Nations Capital. The events start with Networking, where people from all walks of business mingle, have a beverage and share their stories.

As an experienced and highly successful business development professional, Eric has an employment background in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Having both founded and led organizations in different fields, he has over 20 years of leadership experience behind him. In answer to a Frequently Asked Question about the difference between coaching and consulting, Eric offered this response. While a business coach can offer consulting services, a consultant does not coach clients. A pure consultant is basically a specialist dealing with a certain area of a business. For example, a consultant might be able to tell you how to eliminate waste in a manufacturing process. Typically, a consultant is project or problem specific, and details their findings in a report that recommends a plan of action for resolving the issue at hand.

He goes on to state that a true business coach concentrates onyour whole business, instead of just one single area. They focus on long-term strategies that are broken down into specific action steps. They usually target the growth and improvement of the business AND the owner in a more holistic and effective approach. They also commit to a long-term process of transformation, which means that the coach doesn’t leave once a specific project is completed. A coach is there to help you, guide you, motivate you, improve you, and improve your entire business.

As the owner, it is up to you to lead your company to success. However, you may not be conscious of all of the areas of your business that, if addressed, can have considerable impact on that success. Most often, business owners are too busy working “in the business” performing everyday tasks, to work “on the business” evaluating and strategizing for better results. A Coach will help you maximize your strengths, train you in leadership skills, relationship management, business strategy, motivation, productivity, and organizational skills. As you learn to become more effective, your business will become more successful! And it is not as hard as it seems, unless you don’t begin.

Eric Deschamps of BreakThrough Coach offers Business Coaching and Business Networking Events in Ottawa, which are attended by Business, Government and Corporate groups.

Oh, and they are also a lot of fun!

Let’s face the obvious: Social Media is teeming with sellers. Facebook is flooded with Like requests, Twitter is filled with an over abundance of personal opinion and Google plus has yet to emerge as a real challenger. With so many options and conflicting information, the question is, what should I do?

The real question should be, do Twitter and Facebook profiles show up in Google searches for services and products? The answer is NO! You need to have a presence there, but to what extent? These are some of the questions that you can find answers to at Photo Fridays, the Premier Ottawa Business Events.

If you are in Business, then you are likely working extra long hours just selling and servicing your clients. There does not seem to be enough hours in the day to learn and manage your social media, DIY website, changes and challenges by Search Engines and optimization of your social media profiles. If you are like us, then you feel overwhelmed just reading the last sentence. And that was the impetus of Social Media Icon, a think tank, a research center and a media production house, all in one. Buy a Business-or Not!

If you are looking to buy a Business there are many factors to consider from investment price, support, training, competition levels and product. At Rubaroc we are looking for the right people to become Certified Rubaroc Dealers and we are prepared to help you be as successful as you want to be.

Unlike Franchising, we do not require a high capital investment up front. The initial investment is a tenth of what a Franchise would cost and is designed to cover the cost of training. This ensures that your success begins immediately, in a cash positive position. This allows our dealers to focus on providing service without the enormous financial pressure that typical Franchising models incur.

We don’t mind if your Rubaroc Dealership is an addition to your existing business or operated as a stand-alone resurfacing company. Our President, Brian Field, started as a Rubaroc Dealer when he was building decks. Obviously, his deck clients had pools, garages and cracked concrete stairs that needed attention, and since he was already a trusted service provider, it was simple to offer resurfacing as an addition. Soon after, Brian discovered the demand for Rubaroc and it grew to become his main business.

Franchisees also have access to the parent companies Brand and logo. At Rubaroc, they understand that in order for you to have a successful company you must look professional, so they have created templates of business cards, brochures, trade show booths and other marketing tools to make it seamless and simple.  With 30 years of experience, you may not recognize the name, but you will recognize the product. Since it has been installed in a multitude of major hotels, sport franchise facilities and amusement parks, across Europe and North America, your feet will remember. We often here people exclaim, “Oh, that’s what that is!”

Rubaroc is a product that is applied in place. Therefore we train Dealers the best methods of application, the potential pitfalls and estimation. At the corporate level we also have support for Dealers to take on large projects, where we make our experience available to help them sell and service at any scale. So if you own a contracting company, or are looking to buy a small business or buying a franchise, then have a look at Rubaroc. If you want to know how to buy a franchise, know that you don’t need to look any further. We have the support, the training, the Brand and availability in every market in Province and State in the United States and Canada.

Interior Decorating in Ottawa with Sarah Kidder

“Interior design is personal,” claims Sarah Kidder of SK Designs.  Whether you are in Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Orleans or points in between, it is a given fact. And because it is personal, it defies criticism and transcends opinion. That is a given, although not everyone observes that rule.  What you may not know is that the better the relationship you have with your decorator or designer, the more likely it is that you will get your stamp on the design, with a little support where you need it the most.

During a consultation it is imperative to ask very personal questions. "How does your dinner routine work?" for a kitchen project or "Do you take showers or baths?" for a bathroom renovation. These important questions help whittle away the excess assumptions and carve into the heart of the matter, so that when you are left alone to re-enjoy your home, it is as inspiring and fulfilling as you wished it to be.

For starters, changing your wall colour is the fastest and easiest way to transform your space!  New paint can change the entire feel and mood of your room, and is a budget-friendly way to re-decorate!  Colour consultations usually last 1-3 hours and quality consultants have access to cheaper paint prices through industry contacts.

If you are not sure where to start with your bedroom makeover or how to accessorize your shelves or where to hang your art, you are not alone. With so many options and opinions, it can become overwhelming very quickly. Design consults are handy when you just need some advice and ideas and often they can combine their skills to give you a colour consult.

If you are selling your home, then you should be aware that Home Staging has been proven to sell your home faster and get you a higher return!  A usual Home Staging Consultation lasts 1-3 hours and consists of a walk-through. Easy suggestions might include new paint colours, re-hanging or re-arranging art and de-cluttering spaces. Essentially the key is to make the home inviting, but leave enough room for prospective buyers to envision themselves within it.

Sarah’s design philosophy is simple:  It's your home, so it should reflect your style, taste, wants and needs.  She understands that her job is to give you fresh ideas and help you achieve your vision! As a 20-something wife and mother of two, I understand the challenges of designing and decorating a space that is durable, practical – and still looks good!

Carleton University Students Beat Winter Blues with Dow Honda

Yes, it is the Winter Blues time of year again. January is behind us, March is just around the corner and we can smell spring in the air, again.  And the answer to the Winter Blahs comes from an unlikely place, the thoughtful people at Dow Honda on Carling Avenue. What better answer to the cold trek to school or work than to get onboard the Shotgun Shuttle in a Honda Odyssey provided by Dow Honda, along with a cup of hot chocolate!

What you may not know is that Carleton University was founded in 1942, in response to the need to help provide the young people in Ottawa, many of whom had taken on jobs to cope with the pressures of the Depression, with an opportunity to continue their formal education.

Currently, the university has more than 850 research projects underway in all five of its academic faculties. In recent years Carleton’s research funding has grown exponentially, allowing the university to strengthen its research culture and continue to lead the way in fields such as health, digital media, sustainability and the environment, and globalization. And Carleton’s future promises to be as bright and exciting as its past as they look ahead to their 75th anniversary in 2017.

Meanwhile, Dow Honda has been gracious enough to loan a warm and comfy vehicle to the Shotgun Show in order that we may provide a well-needed service to some of the Carleton students.

Beating the winter blues is something that we have had to do since we were hunting wholly mammoth below the ice fields tens of thousands of years ago. Get out of the cave! A few recommendations are to get some exercise. Inside or outside, drag yourself out and do something. You’ll enjoy it once you get started.

Shake up your diet. You know what to avoid, but try adding some change every once in a while. Get your friends to help out. When in doubt, pull a Popeye and cram down some spinach salad! Sunshine is free vitamin D and vitamin D is what we need to keep us happy. Expose yourself.
Cut back on alcohol once in a while. Get your friends together and have an outdoor exercise, eat healthy weekend. Treat yourself with rewards for good behavior and shake it up once in a while. You can go to movies or your favorite restaurant foods or whatever comforts you, like sleeping in once a week.

Really, you just need to make an effort and you will soon discover that a little effort goes a long way, because you’re not alone. Everyone around you is trying to beat the blues too, so why not do it together.

Thanks again to Dow Honda at 845 Carling Avenue in Ottawa and at 613 237 2777 for the generous use of their Honda Odyssey and hot chocolate. They are the premier Ottawa Dealer in Ottawa. Call them and let them know you enjoyed the show.

Women in MMA in Ottawa

There is a stereotype with Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA, that is akin to a comic caricature . Blistered knuckles drag on the floor, over developed muscles burst from its uniform and testosterone drips from its nose like sweat. Like all caricatures, it is an exaggeration that is built on a partial truth and here is where that truth is dispelled.

Like any sport, hobby or art, there are those that are like a bloodhound on a scent. They live and breathe their pastime with more intensity than everyone else, but they are also the exception to the rule. The average Mixed Martial Art student works a day job, has a career, may be a student, a mother or a grandfather. MMA students come in every size, shape, age and gender. There are so many people participating in this sport, that you likely know someone who is training, but they never told you. And if they are a woman, then they may not have wanted to have to explain themselves.

This is Nicky. She is an insurance advisor. She works in a competitive field, where she focuses on delivering the best results for her clients. Some of her workdays extend into the evening and may be followed by an early breakfast meeting. For Nicky, going to N1 Thai at 401 Preston Street in Ottawa, is the best opportunity for her “to burn off a little steam and be with her friends.” When asked about training with men she responded, “we are like family here. Muay Thai is an ancient martial art that begins and ends with respect.” And when you see her kick, it is evident that Nicky can dish out whatever she takes in. “I feel like I have a lot of brothers now that are looking out for me,” she shares. “They help me to be better.”

There are many levels of Muay Thai Kickboxing and unlike most Martial Arts Schools, N1 Thai builds the curriculum is to suit the individual. Naaron Fijalkowski is the owner of N1 and when asked about the schools structure said, “It’s really about each persons goals. I studied with Masters in Thailand and learned that everyone needs a combination of group instruction and personal attention to develop skills.” When I asked one of the students what they thought they responded with, “Naaron gives the kind of attention that every student wants. Firm yet supportive”

N1 Thai Boxing Academy at 401 Preston Street in Ottawa is where MMA and Mixed Martial Arts are the vehicle, but personal development is the goal. They can be reached at 613 233 6981

Tapped Out in Ottawa MMA

So, you tapped out on your New Years resolution. Just an FYI, over ninety percent of New Years resolutions crash in flames. Obviously a New Years resolution is not the correct motivation. What you really need to uncover is the real reason why you wanted to make a change it in the first place.

At least once every week the average person makes one resolution to improve themselves, to get back into shape or to feel better about themselves. We think of it when our clothes feel a little tight or when we find ourselves pausing for air after a flight of stairs or when we have trouble getting up to speed after lunch. At those moments we are aware of ourselves in ways that do not make us feel good about who we are, and we make a silent vows to make a change.  Our bodies are talking to us, and deep in our minds we know that things are slipping. It is a part of the human condition. Let’s face it, there are a large number of factors that sap our strength. These include the weather, work, school, families, girlfriends, boyfriends, and sometimes all of them at the same time. We use them as excuses to avoid getting in shape, when we should be using them as the reasons TO get in shape.

A New years resolution is about telling everyone else that you are going to make a change. But true motivation is a pact with yourself to improve your well being. If you have done a little internal work, then you know what I have said is true. Now all that you have to do is act upon it.

The obvious benefits are that you will feel better about yourself, you will be able to fight disease more efficiently, you will have fun, you will be stronger, you be more in control, you will be more confident, you will have more stamina, you will meet new people with similar interests, you will, you will, you will. You will be prepared to live your life fully, every single day.

N1 Thai Boxing Academy at 401 Preston Street in Ottawa Ontario is the home of MMA Kickboxing and Muay Thai Boxing in Ottawa. It is a specialized gym that focuses on an individuals goals and helps to coach it’s members to achieve their goals. Mixed Martial Arts is the vehicle, but personal development is the goal.

Ottawa Social Media Event with Social Catalyst

We are sorry that you missed the Ottawa Social Media Event that was presented by Social Catalyst. You only missed the amazing food stylings of Sawa Sushi  and the opportunity to rub elbows with some of the most successful social media leaders in the Ottawa/Carleton region.

2012 was a great year for Social Catalyst who have established themselves as THE go-to team for user engagement in online marketing and communications. Anyone can broadcast, but it is engagement that is evolving as the catchword for 2013.

“If you don’t listen to your followers then who will listen to you?”

Every minute of everyday, it seems there is more to know about Internet Marketing.  In fact, it has gone from being DIY and evolved into a strategy that has baffled many major marketing firms. The days of the “just get it out there” are gone, as we find ourselves overwhelmed and settling settle into the marketing long game. Afterall, why waste your time attracting anybody and everybody if only a small percentage of those individuals are relevant to your business?

Social media communications are simmering down to real conversations with real consumers who really want your products and services. Think of it as quality before quantity, less is more or just plain old common sense. So, what is the value proposition in this post? Social Media Marketing is about being real and relevant. Being relevant is about reintroducing the human factor into our relationships. There is a process and like anything, it is easy once you know the rules. But in a storm of voices, how do find the new rules?

I think that is said best on the Social Catalyst website: Genuinely opening up to your community is essential to build meaningful, long-term relationships. If you’re not willing to share, your community can draw all kinds of conclusions. They can think you don’t want to share with them or you don’t know how to share. Worse, they could think you’re hiding things. But your community also has the luxury of choice, and if you’re not sharing, they’ll start to connect with others who are.

In the true sense of abundance we would like to thank all of the attendees who gave us their amazing quotes, and if we capture a quote from you, expect to be reading your name here. Like Sarah from Social Media Icon, Tim from The Ottawa Citizen, Micheline from Property Staged , Terry from Maxsys.com and of course, Trefor from Social Catalyst. BTW, that’s the old world spelling, but it is pronounced Trevor.

The Masters of Vehicle Graphics and Car Wraps in Ottawa

Whether you call it a vehicle graphic, a car wrap or a car decal, it’s all the same to K6 Media because they are the masters of turning your vehicle or fleet into a roving billboard.

Think of it as your message on wheels. A wrapped car gets between 50 and 75,000 impressions per day. One impression equals one pair of eyes looking at your car. Imagine sitting in rush hour traffic, how many sets of eyes there can be on your car at one time.

On our way to work, on our way to school, on our way to eat we pass millions of billboards and advertisements. With every view, or impression, those images and products become familiar. And when things are familiar, they become second nature. We accept them without question. That is the clever effect of marketing. It’s about building trust, and nothing builds trust like familiarity.

Having your car or fleet of vehicles wrapped places your branding and your message in parking lots, at malls, at your kids sporting events, downtown, uptown and across town. Sometimes, all on the same day. What is that kind of exposure worth to your business?

K6 Media are Ottawa’s graphics and signage experts, who specialize in vehicle graphics, car wraps, window graphics, wall graphics, signs, and displays. They understand the value of a business’ branding and the importance of making a strong first impression. They are one of the few Ottawa shops with a full time creative team for wrapping a fleet of vehicles, transforming the interior or exterior of an office space, or creating eye-catching signage and displays. Wrap your car, get impressions, become familiar with your clients, sooner than later.

Animate Your Business with Disada Productions

The fact that Disada Productions was formed in 1971 is a testament to their experience. You have likely seen their work on television, commercials in training films, documentaries and on the Internet. And if you have a business that requires the explanation of complex processes or want to catch the attention of every demographic, then Disada is your one stop shop.

Disada Productions was one of the first companies in Canada to begin leveraging computer animation back in 1983, when Hal 9000 from A Space Odyssey was still bouncing around our heads. Well a lot has changed since then, besides the fact that a computer no longer takes up the entire floor of a building!

Their clients have included the American Medical Association, Banque National, Bell Canada, Canadian Armed Forces, De Laurentis Designs, Fire Prevention Canada, Governments of Canada, United States, Nova Scotia and Quebec, Standards Food Group, Johnson and Johnson, Montreal Canadians, Sun Life and a myriad of other projects, where they were quietly educating and entertaining you.

From the beginning, Disada has pushed the limits if animation, by being one of the first companies to combine live action with animated characters. Of course today, that is old news, but like all exploration the parties involved never know if what they are trying to create will work. And in true filmic fashion, the impossible became possible, which has led us to films that have real and animated characters interacting on a green screen without any sets. Crazy!

From the very beginning, Disada has been an industry leader with Peter Adamokos filling the seat as Vice President of ASIFA, as President of the nation-wide Society of Film Makers, as one of the three founding members of the Canadian Academy of Motion Picture and Television Arts and Sciences and as board member on the federal government’s Film Advisory Committee. Obviously, your animation is good hands.

Animate Your Business with Disada Productions

Business leaders are always looking for ways to make themselves stand out, to show their unique products and services and to explain their processes. Whether you notice it or not, animation is all around us. It entertains us, it demonstrates complex processes that are easier to show than to tell and it is associated with every major brand.

Disada Productions works with clients to deliver creative custom-tailored messages that are entertaining, catchy and have a shelf life that lasts for generations. Do you remember bugs bunny? You can’t tell by looking, but he was born in 1938 and has been reborn many times since. Mickey Mouse was born in 1925, and they both look better every year. Your message and your brand can retain the same youthful zeal and appeal that major brands have built.

Since 1971, Disada Productions has been producing projects for television, theatre and web. Their unique proposition is that as an Animation Studio, they have the experience that comes with age and the energy that comes with youth. This makes them both current and qualified.

Disada produces Training Videos, Television Series, Web Animations, Story Boards, Infomercials and Technical Animations that are key elements in communication with your employees, prospects and existing customers. Animation speaks all languages and communicates with the youngest and oldest members of society, simultaneously. Whether you use traditional, Flash, 2D or 3D animation, each medium has it’s own benefits depending on the budget, message and audience. But a quick conversation will narrow the options and move you toward having an engaging visual representation that can be shared easily through your website, on television, through social media or all of the above. If you are looking to Animate Your Business, then animation is the medium that will make an impact and Disada is the company that can deliver the punch. Did I mention that they are award winning? My bad! And in the famous words of Porky Pig, “b-d, b-d, b-d that’s all folks!”

Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Event at The Spin Bin in The Market-Be There!

Raise your paddles for a great local charity event! Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Event at The Cabin in The Market. The 3rd OCPP Annual Tournament is a great opportunity to have some fun, make new friends, and play some ping pong. High skill, low skill, no skill; it doesn’t matter which as all skill levels are welcome!

Last year over one hundred competitors wore their best tennis whites and enjoyed a night filled of ping pong, recreational athletic excellence, social networking, and fun. It’s all about the fun and the opportunity to support the Youth Services Bureau, Operation Come Home and Christie Lake Kids. The players battled for ping pong glory and a chance to hoist the Charity Cup!

This years Ottawa Charity Ping Pong Event will take place on Friday September 28th at The Spin Bin (The Cabin) located in the Byward Market. The ‘SpinBin’ concept is inspired by a New York table tennis club originally founded by Susan Serandon. Since the wild success of her opening, table tennis bars have been opening just about everywhere and becoming incredibly popular. The Spin Bin is fully licensed and can comfortably hold 700 participants/Spectators.

The fun begins at 7pm. There are 4 ping pong tables, a stage for the band and a gallery where spectators can watch the games. The participants will be entertained by a live band and DJ. To help fuel your body in between matches, snacks will be provided!

Just we are all on the same page, all players and spectators MUST be wearing white. Any player not wearing white during match-play runs the risk of forfeiting that match; the referees will use their discretion in ruling a forfeit. An OCPP match consists of one game. The winner is the first player to obtain 15 points with a margin of victory equal to or greater than 2 points. Match play will continue until a player has achieved a 2 point spread. A point is awarded at the end of every rally, regardless of who served.

A coin toss prior to match play will determine which player serves first. The player who wins the toss gets choice of serve or side. Service will switch after every 5 points. To be considered a legal serve, the ball must first bounce in the server’s court before crossing over or around the net and landing in the receiver’s court. If the ball strikes the net during service but is otherwise legal, it will be considered a let and a re-serve will be awarded. The ball, having been served or returned, shall be struck so that is passes over or around the net and touches the opponent's court, either directly or after touching the net. A series of good returns are considered a rally. The last player to make a good return will be considered the winner of the rally, and awarded a point.

Finally, the referee will use his or her discretion, to interrupt match play and or award a let; resulting in a re-serve and or lose of serve. Match play may be interrupted to correct an error in the order of play; to warn or penalize a player; or because conditions of play are disturbed in a way which could affect the outcome of the rally. And if you don’t feel that you are having enough fun, then we are confident that a refreshing beverage will turn things around!

Treatment for Chronic Pain by Jacquie Ramsey

If you are suffering from chronic pain, then you have likely discovered that there is no simple cure. In fact you not have noticed how it taxes your energy, adds to your stress and can lead you into depression. Having a normal life becomes impossible and then you lose friends, family and support because no one can understand that it never ends and never will. They say that necessity is the mother of invention, so when the medical community was unable to find a solution, Jackie Ramsey refused to stop looking.

It was her unchanging chronic pain that it caused her to be inactive which contributed to a loss of strength and flexibility. Over time this contributed to making her condition worse. The goals of treatment are to reduce chronic pain and increase your ability to function. This includes improving your rest, coping skills and reduction of stress, so you can return to your life. Treatment depends on the type of pain you have and how severe it is, as well as whether your pain is related to an illness, injury, or an unknown cause. Often, the best approach is a combination of therapies.

Chronic Pain is a devastating worldwide epidemic which affects almost one third of the population at any given time. Pain from arthritis, back problems, musculoskeletal conditions and headache costs businesses billions a year in lost worker productivity. It defined as any pain lasting more than 12 weeks. Whereas acute pain is a normal sensation, chronic pain is very different. Chronic pain persists for months or indefinitely for some even longer. It may arise from an initial injury such as a back sprain, or there may be an ongoing cause such as a disease, or there may be no evident cause. Other health problems such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, mood changes, and mobility limitations can be associated with chronic pain.

Holt Renfrew and The Aristocrat of Scent

It sounds like a movie title, but the man with the Nose for Scent in the Ottawa fashion scene believes that every perfume has a story, as distinct as your own.  Someone once asked Marilyn Monroe what she wore to bed. When she replied “Channel Number 5,” it changed the world of scent forever. Sid Cratzbarg IS The Aristocrat of Scent and can be found holding court for the olfactory sense at Holt Renfrew, Ottawa.

Sid’s talent is understanding that scent is as unique to a person as a fingerprint or a signature. With a gentle wave of a bottle, his proboscis is able to detect notes of flowers, oils and accents like a wine connoisseur detects the elements that make a vintage what it is. His repetior includes some of the biggest names in the industry, including Gucci, Versace, Ferragamo and Blumarine. He has launched world exclusives, including the Bois Collection from Florence and Signorina by Ferragamo. Come L’amore was the women’s and the men’s scent was called Oltremare.

Once a primary school teacher and motivational speaker, Sid had a dream to be involved with fashion. He recognized that the Fashion insudrey caters to the young, but fails to address the beautiful people over the age of 29. But then again, aren’t we all 29?

Sid’s greatest skill is his personal touch. Not unlike a reader of palms, Sid is able to discern what would suit a client, even if they are unsure. For the novice or the experienced, Sid has scented solutions for attracting your desire, boosting self esteem, increasing your sex appeal or for defining your individuality.

You can find Sid at Holt Renfrew in Ottawa where he purveys his scents: The invisible accessory.

Donna Cona Canada’s Leading Aboriginal Business and IT Solutions Company

Don’t let Donna Cona fool you. Since its inception in 1996, it has emerged as Canada's leading Aboriginal Business and Technology Solutions Company. They are a proven full service firm with a track record for servicing private business, Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments. Donna Cona provides their clients with sound business and technology advice, business planning, Information Technology strategic planning, historical research services, telehealth for remote and distance communities, program evaluation and custom application system development. They also specialize in technology architecture planning and implementation, computer operations and help desk support.

But don’t let Donna Cona fool you. The name Donnacona comes from the great Iroquois Chief who met Jacques Cartier on his first voyage to the new world and invited him ashore to exchange gifts and form a trading alliance. On the voyage back to France, Cartier learned from Donnacona’s sons that their father's village of Stadacona, which is present day Quebec City, was called a 'kanata'. Cartier wrote the name 'Kanata' on his maps to mark the land belonging to Chief Donnacona's tribe and this marked the first recorded use of the name 'Kanata.' Unbeknownst to all, this was the first step in establishing the name by which our country would become known.

So, don’t let Donna Cona fool you. They have been servicing clients since 1534.

(Donna Cona qualifies under the Government of Canada's Procurement Strategy for Aboriginal Business. PSAB is a Federal Government policy to support the economic development of Aboriginal companies and people. Federal government requirements can be "set aside" for competition amongst Aboriginal businesses.

The final step is to sell the company. Once your business reaches our sales and profitability objectives, we'll shop it to our network of buyers who are willing and able to pay top-dollar for companies that meet their criteria. Not only will you receive years of future cash flow in a single lump-sum payment, but the payout will normally be taxed as a capital gain at 15% rather than ordinary income at 35%.

Equity Investors Network was created by a group of highly successful entrepreneurs, marketing specialists, management experts, lawyers and accountants. Our partners have created and run companies in a diverse set of industries. These companies have achieved sales ranging from 7-figures to 9-figures or more.
